The main job of your muscles is to provide movement. This could be moving your bones, moving your blood, or moving your food through your digestive system, but they all need to move.
Muscles live on blood. Food travels to the muscle through the bloodstream and waste travels away from the muscles, again through the bloodstream.
One aspect of fibromyalgia nutrition is that the energy supply (food and oxygen) in the bloodstream has to get inside the muscle cell.
The transport system in and out of the cell is done by minerals. This is one key to fibromyalgia nutrition. But certainly not the only one.
Muscles work on an active transport mechanism. An active transport system is where the muscle has to ask for the food, through a need for more energy, before the food will go in.
Therefore, you have to demand nutrients to your muscles through exercise in order to heal your muscles. Yeah, sorry, you will have to move your muscles. But you also have to supply the right nutrients to the muscles, through a fibromyalgia nutrition plan.
Then, the individual muscle cells must produce energy, from the food and oxygen supplied, in order to move. This is the second part of fibromyalgia nutrition that affects your health.
Here's an overall view of what nutrients are needed by your muscles:
Potassium and calcium need to be properly balanced. This is because potassium and calcium will exchange places, inside and outside the cell. Sodium plays a role with these minerals in fibromyalgia nutrition, too.
Absorption of food by the muscle cells requires zinc, magnesium, and manganese.
Magnesium and calcium also work together, allowing the muscle to contract and relax. Your muscles get fatigued and weak when they can't relax. You've experienced this, haven't you?
This is also the reason you can't sleep; your muscles won't relax. Here is where fibromyalgia nutrition can make a huge difference in the quality of your life.
When muscles either spasm (tighten) or are too relaxed, this causes the joints to hit each other. More pain for you.
Minerals also hold everything together in the cell so that it can work. That's the best way I can describe in simple terms this aspect of mineral function for fibromyalgia nutrition in your body.
Vitamin E, like a guy with one hand in and one hand out of the cell, grabs the carbs or fats and transports them into the cell. Insulin helps Vitamin E to shove the energy (food) into the cell.
Side note: Vitamin E loves to get rid of fat. It is oil soluble and will use fat for energy. Fat converts to energy using Vitamin B1, B2, B3, Vitamin E, and Beta Carotene. So, good nutrition helps you lose weight, too.
After getting the food inside the muscle cell, it needs to be converted to energy.
Your muscles work like a cylinder and piston works in an engine. In a car, compression makes the fuel in the engine fire, creating energy. In the body, hormones and enzymes make the fuel (food and oxygen) 'fire', which produces energy.
Where an engine needs gas, muscles need food.
While an engine needs air, muscles need oxygen.
We know that an engine needs oil, right? Did you know that muscles need fat or oil, too? No-fat diets are not in line with fibromyalgia nutrition.
Fat lubricates your muscles, just like oil lubricates an engine.
Fat also provides energy. The muscles in your body burn 20 times more energy in a day than the energy of one tank of gas in your car. Hard to believe, isn't it?
Inside the cell, the mitochondria is the furnace of the cell. It combines the food and oxygen, producing energy plus waste.
When the muscle cell breaks the bond of a carbon molecule at the end of a chain of carbon molecules (carbs), energy is released.
A lack of oxygen will cause lack of energy. (Remember the fuel has to combine with oxygen to create energy.) This can be from poor air quality or shallow breathing. But, lack of oxygen can also be from a lack of hemoglobin, which carries the oxygen in your blood. Vitamin B12 and Iron are important for your blood to carry oxygen to your cells.
When the brain realizes you need more energy, like when you're walking up the stairs, it tells the ATP inside the cell. The ATP determines how much energy you need. (ATP stands for a big long word that we really don't need to know, since we can't pronounce it anyway!)
Inside the cell, enzymes and hormones get to work in order to create energy. Your fibromyalgia nutrition program supports these functions. Enzymes are little munchers. They take the fuel, bite it off and let it go free. Co-enzymes help the enzymes.
Enzymes are made of:
1) Vitamins that convert to co-enzymes.
2) Zinc, magnesium, and manganese.
3) Amino acids (protein).
Without enzymes, you can't digest your food. A deficiency of enzymes will lead to lack of energy. Every vitamin is necessary to make enzymes.
Hormones regulate how much energy is to be created. A hot flash in menopausal women comes from the hormones telling the cells to make too much energy (heat). Hormones are made from amino acids, minerals, plus some enzymes.
This process of producing energy also produces waste. In fibromyalgia nutrition, if we don't clean out the wastes, this will cause disease. We call these wastes free radicals. Free-radical protectors are called antioxidants. When antioxidants see a free radical, they grab it, so that the free radical can't do damage to your other cells.
Remember how you learned that Vitamin E takes food into the cell? Vitamin E is an antioxidant that also takes waste out of the cell.
Then Vitamin C helps out by grabbing the free radical in the bloodstream and taking it out of the body, through the kidneys.
This is the process of detoxification. A Vitamin C deficiency will cause toxicity problems. Too much toxicity will cause even more problems. When the cell gets congested with waste, reactions (needed to produce energy) are unable to take place.
Too many chemicals creates too much waste and toxins in the cells. This makes the cells less elastic. This can cause pain when the cells lose elasticity; they can't move with you.
There are numerous factors to fibromyalgia nutrition.
The muscles of the arteries are the most sensitive to lack of minerals. Lack of trace minerals and of calcium will cause spasms in the arteries leading to the muscles.
This is like a cramp. The artery will tighten up to the point of blocking blood flow to the muscle. This in turn starves the muscle of nutrients and oxygen. This is how fibromyalgia can begin.
When your the arteries to your heart, or the heart itself goes into spasm, this is when you experience fibromyalgia chest pain (angina).
When the muscles don't get enough blood, they lack oxygen. The muscle cells call the brain when there is too much waste and not enough oxygen.
This call for help, unanswered, becomes your pain. It's time to listen, don't you think?
As you know, pain is very destructive and difficult to tolerate. It keeps you awake; you can't rest. Pain can completely destroy you. Here's your chance to get rid of your pain!

Of course, if you're not on a good nutrition program, the antispasmodic medicine will not aid in your cure, just temporarily cover up symptoms.
